What is Laser Tattoo Removal, and How Does it Work?
Nearly 30% of people in the US have tattoos, and nearly 25% of them come to regret or outgrow their design choices over time. Fortunately, these individuals are able to clear unwanted tattoos with laser tattoo removal. This process uses high-intensity light energy to break up pigment colors under the skin. Minimal discomfort is to be expected, though depending on the tattoo’s location and personal preference, topical anesthesia may be applied in advance.
How is Laser Tattoo Removal Performed?
The procedure is safe, effective, and less invasive than traditional methods of tattoo removal. In preparation, a trained technician provides the patient with a protective pair of eyewear if necessary. We will then determine the best treatment method based on the tattoo’s colors and location, and pulses of laser light are emitted from the device and into the skin surface. The tattoo color absorbs these pulses; black, which absorbs all laser wavelengths, is the easiest to treat, and blue is also relatively simple. The number of treatments necessary will differ for each person depending on age, size, and color of a tattoo, to be professionally evaluated in an early consultation. Smaller tattoos of fewer colors will require fewer treatments, while larger, more colorful pieces will necessitate more.
Does Laser Tattoo Removal Have Any Side Effects?
After the treatment is done, an icepack is typically recommended to soothe the skin along with antibiotic ointment, bandages, and proper use of sunblock whenever outside. Side effects of this procedure are typically few and mild and may include a slight sunburn sensation during the healing process. Our medical team will let you know what you can expect during your consultation.
